About Matthew

Matthew Smith is a Austin-based Costume Designer and Maker.

Matthew's costume designs are featured at Will Shuster's The Burning of Zozobra, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, a one-night event that attracts over 60,000 people annually.

Matthew's costume work spans across the United States - from Off-Broadway to regional theatres, opera and dance companies such as Houston Ballet, Baltimore Center Stage, Everyman Theatre, and Santa Fe Opera. Most recently, Matthew has designed at Rep Stage, Johns Hopkins University, and Chesapeake Shakespeare Company.

Matthew is currently a Masters of Fine Arts (M.F.A) candidate in the UT Live Design and Production program at the University of Texas at Austin. He holds a Bachelors of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) in Theatre Design/Tech from Santa Fe University of Art and Design (SFUAD).

Design awards include: Outstanding Student in Theatre Tech/Design (2013) and the Texas Educational Theatre Association (TETA) Founder's Tech/Design Scholarship (2013) to study at a four-year university.

Matthew holds an Associates in the Arts (A.A.) in General Academics with High Honors from McLennan College and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, a two-year college honor society, and the International Golden Key Honour Society.
